Fascination, Fear, Fantasy (B.F.A. Thesis)
There is fascination in the endless expanse of stars in the night sky.
In the light phenomena of the atmosphere.
In the flow and ripple of water currents.
In the fluorescence of color illuminated under UV light.
In the fluidity of paint when poured across a canvas.
There is fear in the sudden strike of electricity as lightning flashes across the sky.
In the vast unexplored reaches of space.
In the depths of the ocean.
In the exploration of unfamiliar media.
In the relinquishment of control in leaving fluid painting up to chance.
There is fantasy in the mythologies and folklore of gods and fairies.
In the personification of the natural world as a means of explanation.
In the existence of worlds beyond our comprehension.
In the narrative of color and light.
In the hidden details blacklights unveil in my work.
There is a line between the fascination of visual phenomena and the fear of the reality of these events. Fantasy lies somewhere in the gap between the two, bridging them together into the narrative of a world beyond our own.
