Incarnations: Persephone

Completed as a sustained project for my Spring 2024 Studio Workshop class at Montserrat College of Art, Incarnations: Persephone is a two-part series of acrylic paintings exploring modern interpretations of the Greek mythology surrounding the goddess Persephone. The first series, “The Myth of Persephone,” involved researching five different contemporary media interpretations of Persephone as a character, including color symbolism studies, and then pairing each interpretation with a key moment from Persephone’s primary Classical mythology story (depicting her kidnapping and marriage to Hades), as well as one of the primary symbols of her as a goddess. The second series, “Threshold (Persephone),” is comprised of a triptych of paintings exploring my own interpretation of key elements of Persephone’s mythology, combined with the narrative of one of my own characters who is also featured in my De Caelo: From the Sky ongoing project.
